Nicotine Patches
Nicotine Patches are stuck to the skin (usually the upper arm) and release nicotine steadily, by absorbtion through the skin, over either a 16 0r 24 hour period (depending on the type of patch).
Patches are normally used by those who need to squash cravings throughout the day, they are easy to use, and discreet. By providing a continuous supply of nicotine through the day, they differ from cigarettes, or other NRT solutions (Gum, Inhalers, Lozenge) that mimic smoking a cigarette.
Three strengths of patches are available and recommended use suggests a three month period, during which you should gradually reduce the strength of the patch.
Side Effects
- Always follow manufacturers recommendations!
- Some people experience irritation of the skin beneath the patch (try varying the position of the patch if this occurs)
